Christmas 2019 Missions Project

We will be collecting backpacks filled with items to deliver to the children of the Appalachian Coalfield Ministry. All filled backpacks should be delivered to the church by October 30. The church can provide a Bible and a Backpack. If you would like to pick up an empty backpack to fill, please contact the church office

Items to include:

  •  Small items of NEW items of warm clothing such as winter hats, gloves, socks, underwear, scarves, etc.

  • Small pop-top canned food such as ravioli, tuna, beef stew, vegetables, fruit (3-4 cans)

  •  At least one NEW, age appropriate non-breakable toy (no toy weapons, please!) This can include small cars, balls, dolls, small stuffed animals, yo-yos, jump rope, sidewalk chalk, card games, Legos, etc. For oldest age group (15-17) substitute an
appropriate item instead of a toy, such as, a flashlight, small thermos, light blanket, books, hunting and fishing magazines for the boys - jewelry, books, skin care products, hair accessories, etc.

  • Hygiene items including toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, washcloth, brush or comb, shampoo, deodorant (please fit these items into a one gallon Ziploc bag so they do not leak out into the rest of the backpack).

  • Fresh, wrapped candy (no chocolate please, as it may melt)

When selecting your items please keep in mind which age group you would like your bag to go as well if it’s for a boy or girl.

Age groups:

  • 4-7 yr old

  • 8-10 yr old

  • 11-14 yr old

  • 15-17 yr old

Each bag needs to have two 10 inch ribbons tied on the bag to indicate who the bag is designated for. The church can provide the ribbon or you can attach one yourself.

The ribbon colors are as follows:

  • Boy: Blue

  • Girl: Pink

  • 4-7 yr old: Yellow

  • 8-10 yr old: Green

  • 11-14 yr old: Red

  • 15-17 yr old: White

We will also have the opportunity to help deliver these backpacks on Friday, December 13, 2019. If you would like to attend please sign up on the sheet outside of the choir room. The group will be leaving at 7:00 am from the Surry County Baptist Association Offices.

If you have any questions please contact a member of the missions committee of the church office.
