Devotional by Wes McGarry
In 2 Chronicles 21:5-20 you can read of the horrific reign and demise of Judah’s King Jehoram. A summary of his reign can be found in verse 6 which reads He walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, as the house of Ahab had done, for Ahab’s daughter was his wife. He did what was evil in the Lord’s sight, it is clear that this king of Judah was not well liked by the people nor did he follow God’s instruction. However, God’s promise that he made David many years early was still in effect. That promise was a descendant of David would sit on the throne forever. God remembered the promise he made to David and the writer of Chronicles states, but for the sake of the covenant the Lord had made with David, he was unwilling to destroy the house of David since the Lord had promised to give a lamp to David and to his sons forever. Ultimately, this promise is fulfilled in the person of Christ who will one day, not be a bad king that does not heed to God’s instruction, but instead be the perfect King. If that is a kingdom that you wish to be a part of, repent from your sins and believe that Christ paid the price for you to do so.
